Pageant System
Pageantry is one of the finest and most enduring traditions in the Philippines. No town celebration is complete without a beauty contest
wherein the town’s loveliest is proclaimed the annual queen. The Filipino American community in Hawaii has brought this folkloric legacy and adapted it to the ethnic fiber of the islands assuring perpetuity for our future generations to emulate and appreciate.
The Mrs. Hawaii Filipina Scholarship and Charity Pageant is an annual project of the United Filipino Council of Hawaii Foundation. Launched in 1988, the program initiated the first full on fund campaign utilizing pageantry which is a staple event in most town fiestas and festivities. Today celebrating its thirty-eight year, the Mrs. Hawaii Filipina Pageant has become UFCHF’s major fundraiser supporting the organization’s college scholarship, business mentoring and student outreach programs. These projects perpetuate the legacies of the Filipinos in Hawaii and speaks of UFCHF’s continuing commitment to the future.
The United Filipino Council of Hawaii Foundation (UFCHF) has brought community service a step further. By recognizing its popularity, UFCHF utilized this genre to build a scholarship program that has helped many young women to pursue their college education. As the centerpiece of the UFCH Annual Convention, the Miss Hawaii Filipina Scholarship Pageant has evolved from this concept. For the past sixty-six years, we have crowned young women who have gone to college and became role models for women.
In 1996. the UFCHF Pageant Systems introduced the third event in this genre to build a scholarship program that would focus on young women, 13 to 17 years old to pursue their college education. The Miss Teen Hawaii Filipina Scholarship Pageant has evolved from this concept. The criteria for the search have developed to include not only physical beauty but also intelligence, wit and grace under pressure. Over the years, we have chosen young women who have gone to college and became role models for women. The UFCHF Pageant Systems believe that going to college is a prime endorser for a successful and rewarding career hence a thriving future for her and her future family.
Part of this promise of the United Filipino Council of Hawaii Foundation is its latest edition of the Little Miss Hawaii Filipina Pageant, designed specifically to provide recognition in a positive setting for girls ages 7 to 12. While many young girls start to display highly motivated traits, there is always room for inspiration, growth, and development. In short, this event is a significant step to encourage future successes in little misses. It focuses on the girls’ leadership abilities, early learning achievements and accomplishments in their young lives. The experience includes fun, friendship, and memories to last a lifetime.
Progress Awards
The brainchild of Mr. Tony Ramil and established in 1990 under the presidencies of Mr. Ramil and Ms. Maggie Domingo, the “Progress Award” has become an annual statewide program of the United Filipino Council of Hawaii Foundation (UFCHF). It recognizes outstanding Hawaii residents of Filipino ancestry for their excellence and accomplishments in their field of expertise, as well as civic mindedness and sustaining service to the community-at-large. These individuals serve as inspirational role models for others with similar goals and personal circumstances.
THE Progress Award is the highest honor bestowed by the United Filipino Council of Hawaii Foundation upon outstanding Filipino Americans in recognition of their significant and exemplary contribution to the community, the State and the world. The conferment of the Progress Award is a testimony to an individual’s competency and meritorious accomplishment in several categories with regards to the following considerations: personal and professional achievements related to field of nomination; community and civic engagements; and how his/her achievements and accomplishments contribute to the progress of his/her organization and the general community. The three major categories are: Ating Kaibigan (Our Friend); Juan Dionisio Award for Lifetime Service and The Golden Sakada Award for Lifetime Achievement.
